Lopez Library PolicyThe Lopez Library Board of Trustees is comprised of five voting members, appointed by the County Commissioners for five-year terms. Library Director Lou Pray prepares budgetary information for the board, provides news of county, state and national library issues, and attends all meetings as a non-voting board member. Trustees set the direction of the Library by creating policies and long-range plans, assuring compliance with laws, and overseeing the Library budget. The board hires the Director and takes responsibility and liability for the Library, while leaving daily operational management to the Director. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at 4PM in the Library and are open to the public, as is the annual fall budget meeting. Current Board members:

Seeking Applicants for the position of Lopez Island Library TrusteeMinimum Qualifications: must have the time and interest to do the work of a library trustee; must be willing and able to attend all board meetings and special meetings. Organizational Information: One of five trustees who together oversee the work of the Lopez Island Library director and library policies. Works with: Other trustees, library director and members of the Lopez Island community. The board of trustees determines the basic policies for the library's operation and selects a director to whom the board delegates the authority and responsibility for administration of the library. The board, with the assistance of the director, develops the library's annual budget and authorizes and oversees all major expenditures. The board presents, explains, and defends the library budget to the general public. The county commissioners appoint the members of the board of trustees. The board is responsible for carrying out duties assigned by state law. The library director reports to the board of trustees and is accountable to it for the proper fulfillment of assigned responsibilities. Duties and responsibilities of the trustees:
