Summer Reading

Summer is coming and the reading is easy - if you know where your library is. Just a reminder, there are no limits on number of books you can check out or number of times you can renew a book, CD, or magazine. The big thing is that if the item is on hold for someone else, get that returned pronto to avoid having your record blocked and making your neighbor wait for what is a shared community resource. End of lecture!

Author Read Night - Ana Maria Spagna

Come to an Author's Read night on Saturday May 22, 5pm at the library for an introduction to the work of Ana Maria Spagna, author of Test Ride on the Sunnyland Bus: A Daughter's Civil Rights Journey, winner of the 2009 River Teeth Literary Nonfiction Prize and Now Go Home: Wilderness, Belonging, and the Crosscut Saw, named a Seattle Times Best Book of 2004. She lives and writes in Stehekin, Washington, a remote community in the North Cascades accessible only by boat or float plane. Ana Maria's work has appeared in many publications including Orion, Utne Reader, North American Review, Oregon Quarterly, Mountain Gazette, and High Country News, and in anthologies such as Wild Moments: Adventures with Animals of the North, A Mile in Her Boots, and Best Essays NW.

Make a Splash This Summer and READ!

The Summer Reading Program starts June 18th - Aug 13th and the theme this year is a "Make a Splash" and we'll have incentive packets and prizes to encourage young readers to dive into reading - metaphorically speaking. Wet books are still frowned upon. We are planning on having the "Read to a Dog" program but stay tuned for dates.

A couple The library has two Kindles for check-out. Save the arm strain and try these new electronic readers that have dozens of books on a little 10 oz. wireless reading device. Consider for your next long plane trip or if the weight of regular books is a factor for you.

Home sick? Call the library for a free home delivery. We'll delivery specific items or pull together something we think you'd like.

Teddy Bear Picnic - July 14

The 30th annual Teddy Bear Picnic is July 14 this year at 11 am. Join us and musical guest Charlie Thweatt for songs, stories, a parade around the library grounds led by the library Teddy Bear on her once a year outing. Helen Anderson started the first picnic in 1979, Rosie Sumner remembers. Bring your young ones and be a part of this Lopez Island tradition
