Highlight of the Week
I like to highlight a particular acquisition each month that might be of particular interest to the community. "Parelli's natural horse-man-ship program. Level 1, Partnership" is a multi-DVD program that explores the human-animal communication necessary in successful horsemanship. This is a quite expensive set that the library acquired very reasonably thanks to the generosity and library-centric leanings of our patrons. It is now available for all the horse lovers to enjoy. This might be a good Pony Club film series to show in the library community room. This program is shelved in the DVD non-fiction section, under "DVD 636.1 PAR" - Are there other learning programs you feel an island organization might benefit from? Let me know. I'm happy to take suggestions at lpray@lopezlibrary.org.
On Trial

The library is testing out two new services for our patrons. Ebsco has added a 30 day trial of ConsumerReports.org to our main account. Please try it and see if this is something you would be valuable online from home or school. The Lopez Library currently has a print subscription only. Please share this trial with your neighbors.

IT'S MONO MOUSE!!!
New at your library. For L0W VISION READERS....
MonoMouse is an easy to use elelctronic magnifier that allows people with poor vision to read text easily. The MonoMouse simply plugs into the back of your television, and any text that is placed under the mouse is enlarged on the TV screen. You can now easily read books, newspapers, magazines, even prescription bottles.
Lopez Island Library now has two of the devices. The MonoMouse can be checked out for 28 days. The lightweight mouse and cable are ready to carry out in a small tote bag. Check it along with you favorite books and enjoying your reading again!
These devices are on trial for three months so let us know what you think.
If you would like more information or would like to try the MonoMouse, just ask a librarian or call 468-2265.
Help Us Set Priorities
The library will be hosting two evenings of vision planning for the library and citizens are invited to contact the library (468-2265) if you are interested in participating in the long-range planning events. This would be a two evening (5-9pm) commitment. Help us set priorities for your library's future.
Books into Movies
Two new movies from very popular books are being shown in the library in March.
Mar 21st - Secret Life of Bees - 2:00 PM
- Saturday Matinee
Secret Life of Bees set in South Carolina in 1964. This is the tale of Lily Owens, a 14 year-old girl who is haunted by the memory of her late mother. To escape her lonely life and troubled relationship with her father, Lily flees with Rosaleen, her caregiver and only friend, to a South Carolina Town that holds the secret to her mother's past. Taken in by the intelligent and independent Boatwright sisters, Lily finds solace in their mesmerizing world of beekeeping. Starring Queen Latifa and Jennifer Hudson. Admission is free. Story written by Sue Monk Kidd.
March 28th - Twilight - 5:30 PM - Teen Movie Night
TWILIGHT is an action-packed, modern-day love story between a teenage girl and a vampire. Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) has always been a little bit different, never caring about fitting in with the trendy girls at her Phoenix high school. When her mother re-marries and sends Bella to live with her father in the rainy little town of Forks, Washington, she doesn't expect much of anything to change. Then she meets the mysterious and dazzlingly beautiful Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), a boy unlike any she's ever met. Edward is a vampire, but he doesn't have fangs and his family is unique in that they choose not to drink human blood. Intelligent and witty, Edward sees straight into Bella's soul. Soon, they are swept up in a passionate, thrilling and unorthodox romance. To Edward, Bella is what he has waited 90 years for – a soul mate. But the closer they get, the more Edward must struggle to resist the primal pull of her scent, which could send him into an uncontrollable frenzy. But what will Edward & Bella do when a clan of new vampires – James (Cam Gigandet), Laurent (Edi Gathegi) and Victoria (Rachelle Lefevre) – come to town and threaten to disrupt their way of life? Story written by Stephanie Meyers.
