Donating Books to the Library

Yes, donated books can make a real difference to our library. We accept your donated hardbacks, paperbacks, DVDs, and music CDs.

The Library does not automatically add donated books to its collection. Any item not added to the collection will be sent to the Friends of the Lopez Island Library for their twice a year booksale. The booksale is staffed by dedicated Friends of the Library volunteers, and generates income to buy new library materials and to support Friends-sponsored programs and events.
However, books must by in good condition (not moldy or torn)

Friends of the Library "most wanted" materials:

  • New fiction
  • Crafts
  • Cookbooks
  • Gardening
  • Home improvement
  • Children's fiction in good condition

  • Old Encyclopediass

When books are moldy, mildewed, water-damaged, yellowed, dirty, or full of spider webs, there is no alternative but to discard them. Please do not donate this type of material.
